5 Reasons Why Women Lose Their Hair

Women lose hair on a daily basis - approximately 150 strands just by brushing, combing and manipulating. 150 strands may not seem like a lot, but if you are blessed with long locks then it can look like a huge amount - but if you think about how many hairs we have on our head - 150 strands isn't all that many to lose at all. Losing strands is very common, however if you notice your hair coming out in clumps, or you notice circles of bald patches then this is cause for concern.

The following are 5 reasons why women experience significant hair loss

1. Poor dietary choices: An unbalanced diet, especially one without enough protein, vitamins and minerals, can cause temporary hair loss. Women who suffer from anaemia often experience hair loss.

2. Menopause: Because of the changes in hormones during menopause hair loss can occur quite rapidly, and for some this can become permanent.

3. Constant Shampooing: Shampoos contain a lathering ingredient called surfactant. This is a harsh drying ingredient that can be irritating to the scalp and create itching and scratching, which means more hair breakage and hair loss.

4. Inadequate Hair Care: If you play with your hair too much or colour, blow dry, straighten, or heat with curling irons and hot rollers too much, you will see increased hair loss. You need only to look at the floor in your bathroom to see how much hair drops off.

5. Psychological/Physiological Stress: Hair loss can occur during pregnancy, and any kind of major surgery or life changing event. Usually hair loss here is temporary and the hair will eventually resume growth.
